Introduction
This guide contains product handling, installation, and maintenance instructions for Tosi gateways. Before operating the device, review these recommendations to minimize the possibility of accidents. These precautions are supplementary and subject to local safety regulations.
Operating conditions
- Consult respective product data sheet for storage and operating conditions
- Do not store or operate the device outside the intended environmental conditions
- Operation near or outside the permissible temperature range can considerably shorten the device's service life
- Power cycling the gateway will shorten the device's service life and may eventually cause the device to fail
- Use only in dry environments
- Keep out of direct sunlight, heat source, corrosive substances, salts, and flammable gases
- Gateways are certified to use in specific geographical regions only. Do not use the gateway in regions where it is not approved for use. See Certifications for Nodes and Locks
Electrical safety
- Only use approved accessories and power supplies
- Ensure voltage and rated current of power source match device requirements, do not connect device to an inappropriate power source
- Ensure delivered electrical power is steady and is protected against frequency variations, voltage dips, surges and fluctuations
- Ground the device with grounding terminals before connecting to power. Failure to ground appropriately may result in shock hazard
- Cross-sectional area of protective grounding conductor should be at least 1mm²
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) through any physical port can damage the gateway
- During thunderstorms, do not perform operations on the device or cables
Antenna installation
- Use only approved antennas included in the sales box or specified by Tosi
- Install antennas at least 20 cm away from persons to comply with RF exposure guidelines
- Do not co-locate or operate antennas in conjunction with other transmitters
- Position antennas vertically for best performance
- If signal is weak, try rotating antennas 90 degrees
- Maintain at least 10 cm separation between antennas
- Keep antennas away from metal surfaces that may cause interference
- Antenna extension cable may be needed if gateway is located far from optimal antenna position or routing through walls or cabinets
- For outdoor installations, use proper external antennas intended for outdoor use
- For GNSS outdoor mounting is strongly recommended for reliable reception
RF exposure compliance
- Maintain minimum 20 cm distance between antennas and persons
- Follow local regulations for RF exposure limits
- Post appropriate warnings in areas with antenna installations
- Do not exceed specified maximum antenna gain values
Product handling
- Device specifications are listed on their respective data sheet.
- Treat your device with care and keep it in a clean, dust-free place
- Do not expose to open flames, lit tobacco products, liquid, moisture, or high humidity
- Do not drop, throw, or attempt to bend the device
- Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or aerosols to clean
- Do not paint the device
- Do not attempt to disassemble: the device contains no user-serviceable parts
- Only qualified personnel must service or repair the device
- Use ESD personal protective equipment while servicing
- Do not use in enclosed environments where heat dissipation is poor
- Do not operate where ventilation is restricted
- Do not install near water to avoid fire or shock hazards
- Avoid exposing to rain or damp areas
- Arrange power and Ethernet cables to prevent tripping or damage
- Power off the unit where blasting is in progress and explosive atmospheres are present or near medical life support equipment
Faulty and damaged products
- Do not attempt to disassemble the device
- If device has been submerged in water, punctured, or subjected to severe fall, do not use until checked at an authorized service center
Hardware Installation
DIN rail installation
- Use the DIN clip provided together with the gateway
- See How to attach Lock 600 series DIN bracket for details
- Ensure the DIN clip and the device are firmly secured
Connecting power
- Use only provided power source in the sales box or if using external powering verify source matches device requirements specified in data sheet
- Connect power supply to the power input connector and ensure connection is secure
- Power LED should illuminate when properly connected, see LED status lights and Ethernet ports for details
- Allow 30-60 seconds for device to boot completely
Connecting network cables
- Connect internet to WAN port using proper ethernet cable if using fixed ethernet
- Connect your local device or network switch to LAN port
- Ensure cables are fully inserted and latched
- LED’s should illuminate when connection is established
Digital I/O
- Connect DIO cabling as intended for the specific model
- See How to use the digital I/O for details
- Test the settings
Verifying installation
- Check that Power LED is solid green
- Verify other LEDs are illuminated as expected
- If any LEDs indicate errors, consult the Troubleshooting section
